Janet Jackson went “full circle”to debut her Las Vegas residency, “Metamorphosis,”Friday at Park Theater at Park MGM.
The singer, who just turned 53, told the crowd, “I made my debut when I was 7 years old, right here in Las Vegas. And the beautiful thing about it is it was at the MGMG rand Hotel with my brothers and sisters. It’s so amazing how things come full circle . . . so beautiful.”
Jackson tore through a medley of singles from “Rhythm Nation” to mark its 30th anniversary. Jackson admitted her “ultimate metamorphosis” was giving birth to son Eissa, 2.
“I love that I never gave up. The one dream that meant more . . . I see this as my ultimate metamorphosis,” she said in a recorded video before ending with “Made for Now.”
She celebrated with a VIP after-party at the MGM’s On the Record speakeasy and club, where she hung out with Queen Latifah, Eve, Johnny Gill, Carrie Ann Inaba, Gabrielle Union and longtime producer Jimmy Jam. Eve and Carrie Ann belted out Prince’s “I Would Die 4 U” in one of the karaoke rooms.
“The queen ruled the stage of course she killed it. And we’re so happy to have been a part of it. Now it’s time to leave Las Vegas with some dignity,” Latifah said in an Instagram post.
